Beijingers have rich and varied cultural life. Various types of art performances and international exhibitions are held in Beijing. Peking Opera is reputed as China's "national essence" with a history of two hundred years. It has got gorgeous costumes, beautiful singing, and amazing facial make-up. The traditional Peking Opera is often held at the famous theatres such as National Centre for the Performing Arts, Huiguan Ancient Opera Building , and China Peking Opera Theatre.
