Ranked among the top six renowned ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, Nanxun is the NO.1 historical and cultural town in Zhejiang. With a history of over 700 years, it enjoys a great reputation throughout the world. Nanxun experienced its prime during the Ming and Qing dynasties, thus it is stamped with such features as time-honored, quaint, elegant as well as exquisite.
It is honored as the model and representative of the the south of the Yangtze River for its unique patterns, complete remains, deep-rooted culture and honest people. Since 1982, Nanxuan has been undergoing a series of protecting constructions by the local government, making great contributions to the preservation of old private residence and gardens. Thus in the year 2003, it was listed as a world cultural heritage by the United Nations.

Nanxun is situated at the conjunction of Huzhou, Zhejiang province and Wujiang, Jiangsu province with Shanghai to its east, Huzhou to the west, Hangzhou to its south and Suzhou to the north. A lot of daily buses, rank from mini to mid to big, come to and back between these cities and the water town. At Shanghai Long-distance Bus Station on Qiujiang Road, from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., daily bus will set off to Huzhou and Nanxun at an interval of 20 minutes and take 2-2.5 hours to reach the destination(ticket price: 17-27 yuan); At Shanghai Long-distance Bus Station on Hutai Road, from 5:55 a.m. to 5 p.m., express bus sets out to Huzhou and stops over at Nanxun at an interval of one hour.
Within the town, pedicabs are the main transport facilities, sending travelers to each scenic spot. Sometimes wheelers may firstly agree a price of five yuan, however, they would break their promises and take you to a lot of places that you were not expected to, finally ask more money. Thus, so as to avoid this kind of trouble, you should fix the price first.
