A survey of 2,714 people, mainly Chinese but including some expats working in Shanghai or visiting the city, has found that an overwhelming majority of them are confident of China's capability to host a splendid, successful and unforgettable Expo.
According to a survey conducted by the Shanghai Quality Association, 94 percent of those surveyed believe Expo 2010 will be a dizzying success. Most of the respondents were Shanghainese or from the 25 provinces and municipalities on Chinese mainland and China's Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan as well as 13 countries including the United States and Britain.
Around 50 percent of the Shanghainese surveyed said they plan to visit the Expo site, and 31.1 percent of the foreign respondents currently in the city have the same plan, the survey revealed yesterday.
Meanwhile 91.2 percent of the local residents surveyed said they know the Shanghai Expo mascot Haibao, and nearly half the foreign respondents also recognize the figure.
More than half the respondents believe Expo will help accelerate urban construction, and improve residents' manners.
Residents' behavior, food safety and public transport are the subjects most often raised when respondents were asked which aspects of the city still need to be improved.
