SHANGHAI will be getting lots of rain and plenty of heat this week, according to meteorologists.
Today there will be heavy rain with a high of 30 degrees Celsius and a low of 25 degrees, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
The forecast calls for more rain tomorrow and Wednesday with the temperature ranging between 26 and 34 degrees, the bureau said.
It will get hotter as the week progresses with temperatures rising to 36 degrees.
Thunderstorms are likely later in the week.
Vegetable prices increased 2 to 6 percent last week compared to last month due to the rain and heat, according to agricultural product wholesale markets.
At the same time, people have complained that weather forecasts were very inaccurate this summer, including yesterday, when storms were forecast, but almost no rain fell downtown. Bureau forecasters said rain devastated suburban areas Baoshan and Jiading districts and Chongming County. They said the weather changes often in Shanghai in the summer, so that forecasts can be wrong.
